Identified miscreants hacked to death Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activist Faruk Sardar of Goaland upazila in Rajbari on Saturday night.

The incident took place in Purabhita area adjacent to Daulatdia brothel at about 10:30 pm.

The deceased, 26, was the son of village doctor Shahid Sardar of Mondol Para in Daulatdia Union. He was an activist of the Daulatdia Union unit of JCD.

Faruk's elder brother Moniruzzaman said some miscreants including Mohon Mondol and Ripon of the area, involved in illegal drug use and gambling threatened for a dire consequence to Faruk as he tried to stop their misdeeds few days ago.

Moniruzzaman said that the same group had organised a gambling den at a fair arranged at Daulatdia railway station on the occasion of the Durga Puja.

Last night around 10:00 pm, Faruk and his friend Al Amin went to the Daulatdia brothel area and asked Ripon to stop the extortion and the gambling den. In response, Ripon and his men hacked Faruk, leaving him severely injured.

Locals rushed him to the Goaland Upazila Health Complex. Doctors shifted him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital as his condition continued to be critical. Later, the doctor declared Faruk dead.

Mohamad Rakibul Islam, Officer-In-Charge (OC) of Goaland Ghat police station said police is investigating to uncover the motive behind the murder.
