BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said that reforming the state does not require months, emphasizing that reforms imposed other than political sphere often lack practical relevance.
He stressed that political problems must be solved by politicians themselves.
He made these remarkss on Friday (Oct 25) at a programme of the Women's and Child Rights Forum of Munshiganj district held at the BNP's central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka.
Roy said, "Since we all agree on the need for a fair and free election, we have presented a reform proposal. Those in charge should sit together, identify any errors, and then present the reformed proposal to the nation."
Recalling the presentation of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s 27-points to the nation, Roy mentioned that the party further revised it, incorporating feedback from other stakeholders, then we refined it into a 31-point reform proposal, which was presented to the nation.
Reiterating that prolonged reform processes are unnecessary, Roy added, "At least 40 parties have agreed on the 31-point reform proposal."
He also urged the interim government to adopt the BNP’s 31-point reform proposal, adding, "If any modifications are necessary, these can be discussed with political parties. This reform process doesn’t need to be dragged out for months."
Roy also raised questions about the media’s justification for airing a video statement by Jahangir Kabir Nanak, a presidium member of the Awami League, regarding the ban on Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
He commented on the matter, saying, "The Chhatra League has been banned, yet no one has been arrested. They are all moving around freely and comfortably."
Selima Rahman, another BNP Standing Committee member and convenor of the Women and Child Rights Forum, noted that Tarique Rahman had directed the formation of a committee to address rising incidents of violence against women and children. "Following that directive, we established a committee and have taken a stand wherever violence against women has occurred," she added.
