Tarique Rahman expresses relief, calls for end of political battle

BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, expressed relief after a High Court cleared him in the August 21 grenade attack case.

The verdict was delivered on Sunday (Dec 1) by the High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayetur Rahim.

Rahman was also acquitted in two sedition cases filed by Chhatra League leaders in Sylhet in the same day.

The Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate’s Third Court, led by Judge Sagir Ahmed, cleared him of these charges.

Following this verdict, Tarique Rahman shared a post on his verified Facebook page, expressing relief and calling for national unity to end political vengeance.

In his post on Sunday night, he wrote, “The beauty of truth lies in its inevitable triumph over false propaganda and conspiracies. It strengthens our belief that, in the end, justice and fairness prevail."

He urged people to unite, stating, “Let us come together to end political battle and open a new chapter in history where no life or family will be destroyed due to political differences."

Tarique further emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values, saying, “We pledge to uphold the spirit of democracy, which thrives on diversity of faiths, values, and ideologies. It empowers the people of Bangladesh to determine their destiny through elections."

He concluded with a call for a rule-based society, adding, “In this journey, we aspire to uphold the rule of law, protect human rights and freedom of expression, ensure every citizen’s rights and liberty, and build an inclusive, tolerant, and rules-based society.”
