BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has called for unity to restore true democracy and uphold the rule of law, independent judiciary, and a pluralistic political system in Bangladesh.
He said while conveying a message on Friday (Dec 13) marking Martyred Intellectuals Day.
Tarique Rahman, in his statement described Martyred Intellectuals Day as a deeply emotional and mournful day in the history of the nation.
He said the martyred intellectuals were some of the finest sons and daughters of the soil who envisioned a prosperous and dignified nation. They dreamed of a just, exploitation-free, democratic state. However, the occupation forces and their collaborators executed a planned massacre on the eve of the final victory to deprive an independent Bangladesh of its brightest minds.
He at this time alleged Awami League of continuing that legacy of misrule, creating division and discord through enforced disappearances, killings, and crossfires, which he claimed obstructed national unity and progress while sending democracy into exile.
Emphasizing the inspirational role of the martyred intellectuals, Tarique Rahman urged the nation to unite and work together to build the Bangladesh they had envisioned.
