Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has outlined his party's plans to enhance the welfare of differently-abled people, emphasizing the establishment of a separate directorate for their care and development if the party is voted into power.
In a virtual views-exchange meeting today (Dec 14) with differently-abled individuals from London, Tarique Rahman shared BNP's vision for improving the lives of people with disabilities.
He explained that the new directorate would be tasked with coordinating the activities of various ministries involved in their welfare, ensuring better and more streamlined services.
“We have a plan to establish a separate directorate for differently-abled people to coordinate the efforts of different ministries working for their welfare,” Rahman said. “BNP will also undertake specific programs aimed at improving the lives of these citizens.”
The event, which was organized by BNP in cooperation with the Protibondhi Nagorik Shangathaner Parishad (PNSP), took place at the LGED Bhaban auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka. Around 150 differently-abled participants from various organizations attended the meeting, where they voiced concerns and shared their challenges.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and PNSP General Secretary Salma Mahbub also spoke at the event, emphasizing the need for greater attention to the issues faced by differently-abled citizens.
One of the key demands raised by attendees was increased political representation for people with disabilities. Several participants also called for public transport and both public and private buildings to be made more accessible for the differently-abled.
In response, Tarique Rahman assured them that BNP would prioritize these issues. He pledged to increase allowances for differently-abled people and ensure that the distribution process is transparent and fair.
The event highlighted the BNP's focus on social welfare and its intention to implement concrete measures for the inclusion of differently-abled individuals in all aspects of national life.
