BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has called for banning Awami League from politics, accusing the party of genocide and crimes against humanity.
He also demanded legal action against the party as a political organization.
Salahuddin Ahmed made these remarks while speaking at a discussion organized by the Regional Secretary Council at the National Press Club on Wednesday (February 5).
He at this time criticized the interim government for not taking legal steps to bar Awami League from politics.
This BNP leader also argued that while authorities restrict the party’s activities on the streets, no legal measures have been introduced to ban it.
He urged for amendments to the International Crimes Tribunal Act under Article 47 of the Constitution to prosecute Awami League for its alleged crimes.
Salahuddin said that the people of Bangladesh, through a mass uprising, have rejected Awami League and its fascist politics.
He called for a judicial process to determine whether the party should be allowed to continue political activities or participate in elections.
The BNP leader further said that if the government truly wants to eliminate fascist politics from the country, it should take necessary legal steps.
