DHAKA: The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Tuesday summoned Jamaat-e-Islami leader Dr Abdullah Mohammad Taher shortly after a sedition case was filed against him on charge of issuing threat to the government.

President of Bangladesh Awami Ulema League Md Iliyas Hossain Bin Helali filed the case earlier in the day with the CMM Court against Dr Taher for delivering “provocative” speeches against the government.  

The court did not take the sedition charge into cognizance for lack of government permission. But, it issued summon to the Jamaat leader in another section of the case for threatening the important government personalities.

Seven people, including daily Janakantho Editor Atiqullah Khan Masud, were made witnesses of the case.

In the complaint the plaintiff said that the Jamaat leader delivered provocative speeches at a roundtable on August 4 at the National Press Club threatening to ‘apply reserve force against important government personalities when necessary’.

The plaintiff alleged delivering such speeches “is a threat to the government and considered an anti-government act”.
