MADARIPUR: At least 10 persons were injured in a clash between two rival groups of Madaripur Government Nazimuddin University College unit Chhatra League Wednesday.

Seriously injured Rakib Hawlader, 24, and Kanan Sharif, 24, were admitted to Madaripur Sadar Hospital.

Witnesses said the one BCL group backed by Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan and another by AL organizing secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim had been at loggerhead centering the fresher reception programme of the college a week ago.   

Following the conflict, college unit BCL AGS Atiqur Hossain Babu and his associates stabbed their rivals Rakib and Kanan, in Puran Bazar Kazir mor area on Wednesday afternoon, leaving them severely injured.

As the news spread, supporters of Kanan-Rakib group attacked Babu group. Both groups locked in a chases and counter chase, leaving eight people injured.

Office in-charge of Madaripur thana confirmed the incident of clash.
