DHAKA: Taking a swipe at the current spell of litigation in the country, BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Friday called upon the youth to stand united to face the situation he defined as ‘case terrorism’.

The Senior Joint Secretary-General of the opposition party made the call while speaking at a roundtable titled ‘Democracy and humanity: Bangladesh perspective’ at the National Press Club. Shikshak Karmachari Oikya Jote organized the meet.

He resented that although the government withdrew a great load of about 6,500 cases against the ruling-party people, it did not withdraw the cases filed against the opposition leaders.

In this context, the BNP leader bitterly criticized the government decision not to extend parole of Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son party chief and ex-PM Khaleda Zia. “Canceling Koko’s parole proves again that the government has let loose case terrorism,” he said.

Mirza Fakhrul observed that the common people have no right to freedom of expression and security of life as there is “no rule of law” in the country.

Criticizing all the agreements signed with India, the BNP leader also said, “For the signing of the deals, the country will lose more than it’ll gain.”
