DHAKA: The High Court (HC) Sunday granted six months anticipatory bail to Diganta Media Corporation chairman and Jamaat leader Mir Kashem Ali in tax evasion case.

An HC bench comprising Justice Sharif Uddin Chaklader and Justice Md. Fazlur Rahman issued the order in response to a petition of Mir Kashem challenging the lower court order.

The HC also issued a rule upon the government to explain within four weeks why he should not be granted regular bail in the case.

Deputy Tax Commissioner of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Moniruzzaman filed the case against Mir Kashem for evading Tk 8,90,174 as Tax on August 18.

Metropolitan senior judge Md. Ismail Hossain issued arrest warrant against Mir Kashem after hearing of the case.
