Govt alert over Jamaat protest

DHAKA: The law enforcing agencies have remained alert in city to avert any subversive activities during Jamaat-e-Islami’s demonstration on Monday demanding release of their leaders, including its secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) deputy commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muntasirul Islam told banglanews that as the main duty of the police is to assure public security, they will take highest security measures.

Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan, Director of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Media and Legal Wing, also said that RAB members remain alert position to maintain law and order situation in city and to avert any untoward situation centering Jamaat demonstration.

Earlier on June 8, Jamaat-e-Islami declared the program demanding the release of their leaders before Ramadan.
