SYLHET: A district court on Sunday fixed July 6 for next hearing in the former Finance Minister SAMS Kibria murder case.
Acting Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal of Sylhet M Monir Ahmed Patwari fixed the date in presence of four out of 14 detained accused around 10:30am.
During the hearing, Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI) leaders Delwar Hossain Ripon, badiul Alam Mizan, Mizanur Rahman and Habiganj mayor GK Gous were produced before the court.
District and Session Judge Additional PP Shamsul Islam said due to illness, Sylhet City Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury was not brought to the court.
Besides, Mufti Hannan, Muhibullah, Sharif Saiful Alam Bipul, Maulana Shawkat Osman alias Sheikh Farid, Mufti Moin Uddin alias Abu Jandal, Abdul Majid alias Yusuf Butt, Sheikh Abdus Salam were also not produced before court as they remained detained in different jails.
Sylhet District and Session Judge Court Public procesutor Advocate Misbah Uddin Siraj, Additional PP Shamsul Islam, Speedy Trial Tribunal special PP Kishore Kumar Kar moved for the state while Advocates Emad Ullah Shahidul Islam Mohammad Lala and Abdul Khalque stood for the defendants.
On January 27, 2005, Kibria and four others were killed and 70 others injured in a grenade attack on a rally at Baidderbazar Primary School field.
Local Awami League leader Abdul Majid Khan filed two cases with the Habiganj sadar police station – one for murder and the other under the explosives act.
Munshi Atiqur Rahman, the then ASP of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), submitted charge sheet to the court on March 19, 2005, accusing 10 BNP men.
As complainant Adul Mazid Khan raised objection to the charge sheet, the CID was asked to conduct further investigation.
Supplementary charge sheet was pressed in November last year, accusing HuJi Members and several local BNP leaders.
