DHAKA: The government on Monday filed an appeal seeking a stay on the High Court order that granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The appeal was filed with the Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Fayez Siddique.
Earlier on Thursday, a HC bench of Justice Mohammad Nuruzzaman and Justice Abdur Rob granted Fakhrul bail in three cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel thanas.
Lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain moved for the defenders while Barrister Rafiq-ul Huq and Barrister Moudud Ahmed were present at the court.
Earlier on April 16, the HC issued a rule asking to know why Fakhrul will not get bail in the three cases.
However, police filed the cases against the BNP leader in accusation of creating violence in Paltan and Motijheel areas in city during the BNP-led alliance enforced nationwide hartal and blockade.
