DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Lieutenant General (retd) Mahbubur Rahman said that it is Election Commission (EC)’s responsibility to ensure upcoming municipal polls free, fair and impartial.

He made this assertion at a discussion, organized by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Dal, at National Press Club in city on Saturday.

The BNP leader said that BNP and its 20-party alliance has been trying to restore democracy in the country as the national election on January 5 in 2014 was one sided.

‘We have decided to participate in the municipal polls and approved nominations to save democracy,’ he added.

‘We are suspicious about the impartiality of the municipal polls,’ he commented.

According to him, it is EC’s responsibility to ensure an impartial election.
