DHAKA: Antorjatik Juddaporad Gonobichar (International War Crimes mass trial) committee will hold mass rally and procession on Sunday (January 3) demanding trial of 195 Pakistani war crimes suspects.
The rally will be held at Motijheel Shapla Chattar in the capital around 3:00pm on the day.
Beside, the committee will stage mass sit-in demonstration in front of Jatiya Press Club on January 6 demanding upheld of death penalty of war criminal Motiur Rahman Nizami and execution of the verdict.
Convener of the committee Shipping minister Shahjahan Khan declared the programmes in a press conference at Swadhinota Hall room in city’s Degunbagicha area on Saturday.
On behalf of the Antorjatik Juddaporad Gonobichar committee, he also urged Pakistan to try 195 prisoners of war (POWs) on allegation of war crimes.
He said, ‘Try the 195 POWs, otherwise Bangladesh will hold mass trial of those Pakistanis on March 26, the Independence Day.’
The minister also urged all to take part in the symbolic mass trial.
On December 18 last year, the 501-member committee was formed at the venue.
The committee members include joint conveners journalist Abed Khan, Shirin Akhter MP, freedom fighter Alauddin Mia, DUJ general secretary Kuddus Afrad, while member secretaries freedom fighter Osman Ali, assistant member secretaries actress Shami Kaiser and journalist Anjon Roy.
After liberation war, amid huge international pressure on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his government, the 195 Prisoners of War (POWs), identified by Bangladesh as war criminals, were able to go back to Pakistan.
These POWs include-- one lieutenant general, five major generals, 20 brigadiers, four colonels, 40 lieutenant colonels, 81 majors, 41 captains and two lieutenants of Pakistan Armed Forces.
Lt-General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi and Major Generals Nazar Hossain Shah, Mohammad Hossain Ansari, Mohammad Zamshed, Quazi Abdul Mazid Khan and Rao Farman Ali were among the prisoners.
