Court asks to investigate case against Gayeshwar

DHAKA: A city court on Thursday ordered to look into the case against BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy for making defaming comments on intellectuals, who were martyred during the country’s war of independence in 1971.

Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Haque passed the order after taking cognizant the case, filed by son of a martyred freedom fighter’s family and also Mercantile Bank assistant managing director Manindra Kumar Nath.

The CMM court also asked Shahbag Thana officer-in-charge (OC) to submit the investigative report within February 18.

Gayeshwar, while addressing a discussion meeting in city on December 25 in 2015, said that they (intellectuals) died like stupid, and “a few more stupid like us places floral wreaths to commemorate them”.

If they (intellectuals) were so brilliant then why did they stay in their houses till December 14 of 1971, he added.
