DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been summoned by a Dhaka court on March 3 in a sedition case.
Metropolitan magistrate Rashed Talukder on Monday gave the order after hearing the case filed for her remark over the number of martyrs during country’s war of independence.
Earlier in the day, a sedition case was filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia following her comment over the number of liberation war martyrs.
Supreme Court lawyer Momtaj Uddin Ahmed Mehedi filed the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court this morning.
Earlier on Sunday, Home ministry has given approval to file a sedition case against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia following her comment over the number of martyrs during country’s war of independence.

Earlier on December 21, 2015, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at a rally of freedom fighters commented that there is a controversy regarding the number of martyrs of country’s war of independence.
On December 23, Momtaj Uddin Ahmed sent a legal notice to withdraw her comment mentioning her mentality of ‘sedition’.
The lawyer later sought home ministry’s approval, as he did not get any reply of the notice.
Khaleda’s lawyer and also Supreme Court Bar Association president Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain opined that there is nothing of sedition in BNP chief’s speech regarding the accurate number of martyrs.
