SYLHET: A Sub-Inspector of police was injured as Jamaat-Shibir attacked him in Bandarbazar area of the city on Monday noon.

The victim was identified as Harunur Rashid, Sub-Inspector of Sylhet Mohanagar Police.

Locals said that Shibir activists suddenly attacked on SI Harunur Rashid from a procession at 1:00pm. They also vandalized his motorbike and a City Corporation’s truck at that time.

Early on the day, police nabbed around 16 local Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists from the city.

Police source said additional law enforcers were deployed with a view to avoiding any violence in the city.

Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Mohanagar Police M Ayub confirmed the matter to banglanews.
