The suspension of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's sentence is being extended for six more months as per the opinion of the law ministry. 

With this, her sentence suspension is likely to be extended for fifth times. 

Law Minister Anisul Huq said opinion has been given to extend sentence suspension of Khaleda Zia for six months. 

Earlier in the day, the law minister said opinion of the law ministry will be sent to the home ministry following the application filed by the family of Khaleda Zia for the extension of her (Khaleda Zia) sentence suspension.

A Dhaka court awarded 5-year jail sentence to Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage corruption case on February 8, 2018.

In the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, on March 25, 2020, the government released Khaleda Zia halting sentence in exercise of its executive authority under Section 401 (1) of the Criminal Code of Procedure.
