The scarcity of water has been getting worse since the winter has ceased. The crisis has reached to its peak resulting immeasurable sufferings to the life and livelihood of the city dwellers with severe outbreak of dieses.
We cannot think of life without water. So city life is getting difficult without water day by day. However, in our country, the crisis is acute everywhere from shabby to posh areas or from village to town.
The situation may worsen further as the lean season is yet to set in full. The water level of the county has reached below the required level to provide sufficient water for the people. On the other hand, other sources of water are also very poor. The government is facing challenge to meet the demand. The surrounding rivers of the city are also much polluted which need additional cost to make it usable for the dwellers.
To live, people have to incur additional cost to their daily expenditures which is risen significant living cost to their lives. The middle income people are suffering a lot. But it has equally affected everyone.
They have to buy water for their daily living and have to suffer a lot leaving unbearable sufferings for them. In addition to this, serious health hazards are looming.
The government is failing to meet the challenges of the crisis. Water is the most basis need of life. Our right to life and various other basis and fundamental rights are related to the right to access of safe water. It is a basic need for our survival on earth.
Most important basic rights like right to life and right to health are closely related to right to water. There is no specific provision on right to water in the constitution of our country nor is it cited in the constitution of other countries. It is not need to insert all the basic need provision in the constitution as these rights are related to right to life and some other related basic and fundamental right of the people. Even the international human rights instruments did not have any citation of the right to water indeed, except some specific instruments in this regard.
Let alone the legal and human rights instrument, the necessity of water is indispensable for living a humane life. It is the urgent call of the government to work out on it. Comprehensive actions by the authority need to be taken to make out a sustainable solution in this regard. Considering it as a human rights issue, the government is expected to mitigate the crisis.
