DHAKA: Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus has got relieved from a criminal case filed for violating rules of Labour Law by paying Tk 7,500 as fine.
Tariqul Islam, labour inspector (general) of the Directorate of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, filed the case with the Third Labour Court’s (Dhaka) Judge Rohibul Islam on 5 January.
Managing Director Naznin Sultana and DGM Gauri Shankar were made defendants in the case.
The court issued summons on January 13. Admitting guilt, lawyers sought acquittal of the allegation on February 20 on behalf of Dr Yunus.
Talking to journalists, Sirajul Islam, one of the lawyers of Dr Yunus, said, “We informed the court that there is a rule of getting acquittal under Labour Law. So, we are admitting guilt and pledging to obey it in the future.”
