DHAKA: A Dhaka court has fixed March 9 to deliver its verdict in the case filed over rape and subsequent murder Samia Afrin Saima at Wari area in the capital.
Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Kazi Abdul Hannan fixed the date on Thursday (March 5).
Samia, aged 7, went missing and was found dead on a 9-storey vacant flat in Wari on 5 July of 2019. She lived with her family on sixth floor of the same building. She was found with a rope still wrapped around her neck, blood stained and blindfolded.
Saima was a nursery-grade student of Silverdale School in Wari.
Her father Abdus Salam filed a case with Wai Police Station.
It was found later that the little girl was brutally raped by Harun-ur Rashid, the main accused over murder of Samia Afrin Saima who hails from Cumilla, and the killer dragged her lifeless body by tying a rope around her neck and took it to the kitchen of that vacant flat and fled the scene.
Harun-or-Rashid gave confessional statement before the court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari on 8 July of 2019, who recorded Harun’s statement under section 164 and then sent him to jail.
Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Harun on 7 July.
