21 April 2012- Local administration imposed section 144 in Balarampur ground of Harinakundu upazila of the district to avert an imminent clash between local BNP and Awami League as they convened separate programmes at the same time in the area on Saturday. Apprehending disturbance of law and order, UNO of the upazila Kalachand Singha imposed section 144 in the venue and surrounding areas to be in force from 3:00pm to 10:00pm in the day. 22 April 2012- Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) will interrogate Soumen Sengupta, son of resigned Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta, on April 26 over the source of his wealth and income. Confirming the matter to banglanews, a source from ACC said that a letter in this regard from ACC was sent to Soumen Sengupta. On April 17, ACC director general (special investigation) Aminur Rahman told banglanews, “We have started our initial investigation. 23 April 2012- A joint commission meeting between Bangladesh and India is scheduled to be held on May 6 and 7 at New Delhi of India. Foreign Minister Dipu Moni will visit India to attend the meeting.A senior officer of the Foreign Ministry Monday confirmed this to banglanews. India has sent the primary schedule of the meeting. It has not been finalized yet. Dipu Moni was also invited to attend the closing ceremony of 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore in the neighbouring country. banglanews24.com
24 April 2012- The hearing on charge framing against former BNP lawmaker Abdul Alim for his alleged crimes against humanity during the country`s Liberation War in 1971 began Tuesday at International Crimes Tribunal-2. The three-panel tribunal led by Justice ATM Fazle Kabir adjourned the hearing and extended former Joypurhat lawmaker’s bail till April 29. A total of 65 allegations, including, looting, mass killing and rape, were brought against BNP leader Abdul Alim for his alleged involvement in 32 incidents during liberation war in 1971. 25 April 2012- A Dhaka court fixed Thursday as the day to give verdict on a corruption case filed against five people including Awami League presidium member and former minister Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir. Dhaka Division Special Judges court’s Acting Judge Md Abdul Majid fixed the date after the hearing Wednesday in presence of the accused. 26 April 2012- National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Bangladesh has issued an order to investigate the incident of physical assault on Advocate Shahanur Islam, founding secretary general of Justice Makers Bangladesh and also member of Dhaka Bar Association and Bangladesh Bar Council, by the police official in Mohammadpur police custody under Dhaka metropolitan police. NHRC asked the senior secretary of home ministry to submit the report after proper investigation forming a three member’s enquiry committee comprising a at least a deputy secretary of home ministry, a high level police official and a representative from human rights non government organization nominated by the aggressive party. 27 April 2012- Nasir Uddin Ahmed, a Brahmanbaria Distric Judge, is set to be appointed as registrar for International Crimes Tribunal (ICT). A source of law ministry disclosed the matter to banglanews on Friday. The source also said Nasir Uddin would quit as Brahmanbaria District Judge on April 29, and take his office in the tribunal in the first week of May. Currently, Deputy Registrar Mezbah Uddin Ahmed is acting as registrar for ICT.
