Corruption has become an all-encompassing global problem creating intricacy for development and good governance both in national and international level. The mostly affected issue within the state boundary is the ‘governance’. If any state suffers form ensuring good governance, all other state machineries will be dysfunctional and will turn the state a dysfunctional one. Such kinds of examples are abundant in history and the world at present as well.
The characteristic of corruption is almost similar irrespective of states. In all cases, the administrative functions of the governments in respective countries become involved directly with the corruption. Beside that, the administrative functions include the political parties with the centre corruption activities. Thus, the corruption become institutionalized and gets stronghold in the entire administrative activities of the country.
The practice is more or less similar in the developed and developing countries. However the impact of corruption in those countries is different. For us, where corruption is all-encompassing, has a greater effect than where the gravity is lesser with skimpy effect on the administration.
But, realizing the pervasiveness of corruption, whatever the effects, all the countries have taken various measures to combat it.
In global corruption index, Bangladesh has been listed several times as the highest corruption prone country amongst the countries. It has become so consecutively for three times or more. Such type of constant success has tarnished the image of the countries around the world.
But most unfortunate of all this is that the political parties have politicized the issue while it was required to treat with due importance and pondering. We have missed it. We have shoulder away our responsibility upon someone and retold the back-story of corruption. The result was ultimate repetition of corruption in the country with high global index.
Fighting corruption worldwide is not a new activism in the world. The world’s most powerful state also once suffered from corruption. US has been fighting corruption for a very long time with all its sources. Many people have been punished for their corruption involvement. Several investigation agencies were created to investigate and root out the corruption from the respective states.
After conducting huge investigation many officials and politicians were brought to book. It was found that for operation of the political parties, the politicians receive money from the state officials in return of which they also provide extra-benefit to those officials. Thus the cycle continues and corruption survives even in those developed countries.
