DHAKA: Bangladesh Cyber Crimes Tribunal sentenced five people, including the lawyer of executed war criminal BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, to different terms of imprisonment in a case filed over leaking the verdict of the war crime case.
Meanwhile, the court cleared all charges against the war criminal’s wife Farhat Quader Chowdhury and Hummam Quader Chowdhury.
Tribunal’s lawyer KM Shamsul Alam pronounced the verdict on Thursday afternoon (September 15).
Of the convicted, SQ Chowdhury’s lawyer Barrister AKM Fakhrul Islam was awarded 10 years of imprisonment while manager Mahbubul Hasan, Barrister Fakhrul Islam’s junior lawyer Mehedi Hasan, International Crimes Tribunal’s employees Faruq Ahemd and Noyon Ali were given seven years’ imprisonment each.
On October 1 of 2013, the ICT awarded Salauddin Quader Chowdhury death sentence for his crimes against humanity during the 1971 liberation war of Bangladesh.
But before the announcement of the verdict, the BNP leader’s wife and other members of the family had shown ‘copies of the verdict’ to journalists, claiming they had found those documents on internet.
