BARISAL: A district court on Sunday (March 05) has awarded two former Grameen Bank (GB) officials 10-year rigorous imprisonment for misappropriating deposits of the customers.
The convicts are Delwar Hossain, former GB manager of Raipasha branch, son of Joynal Abedin, resided from Chatiyatola area of Jessore district and Officer Shah Alam, son of Hatem Ali, resided from Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat district.
Divisional Special court Judge Dilip Kumar Bhoumik handed down the verdict in presence of the convicts after examining 13 witnesses.
The court also fined Tk 5 lakh each, in default, to serve more six months in jail.
According to the case statement, the two convicts misappropriated a total of Tk 1.25 lakh of 3 customers from September 15 in 2009 to January 12 in 2010.
Wazed Ali Gazi, Assistant Director of Anti Corruption Commission of Barisal regional office, lodged a case in this connection against the duo on October 3 in 2012.
On October 14 in 2014, Bahadur Alam, Deputy Director of ACC, submitted charge sheet against them.
