BARISAL: A Barisal court on Monday (April 10) sentenced a couple to life term imprisonment in a case for killing a four-year old child and abduction of body at Wazirpur upazila in the district.

The court fined TK. 50,000 each under Section 302 while the court also sentenced the two convicts to five years imprisonment separately under Section 201 and fined Tk. 5,000 each.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Sheikh Abu Taher pronounced the verdict.

The convicts are Saidur Rahman, son of late Lal Chand of Kalna area under Wazirpur, and his wife Tanjila Rahman Tania. The convicts are on the run.

According to the case statement, Hafiza, the four-year child daughter of Haider Ali of Kalna, went into missing on August 11 in 2008. Haider Ali filed a general diary with the Wazirpur police station.

On August 13, Tk. two lakh was demanded as ransom from hidden place over phone. Later, police recovered body of the child from home of one Mazharul Islam of the village.
