JESSORE: A man was awarded death sentence for killing his wife for dowry in 2003 in Jessore.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Amit Kumar Dey handed down the verdict to one Krisnapad Sarker on Monday (April 17).

Now 48-year old Krisnapad is son of Shantiram Sarker of Narayanpur village under Keshabpur upazila in the district. He is on the run.

Two other defendants in the case-- Karuna Sarker and Panchanan Sarker-- were acquitted as the charges brought against them could not be proved.

According to the prosecution, Krisnapad demanded a dowry of Tk 1, 00000 from the parents of his wife Anna Sarker. Anna failed to bring the money from her father. This angered him. He killed Anna in 2003 and hanged her from the crossbeam.

Public prosecutor (PP) Advocate Idris Ali confirmed the matter to the Banglanews.
