RANGPUR: A district court has awarded life term imprisonment to a person named Nazmul, for killing youngster Rakib in Rangpur.
Judge of Rangpur special court Naresh Chandra Sarker pronounced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon (April 19).
The court also fined Nazmul Tk. 25,000, in default, three years more imprisonment.
However, the court acquitted another accused in the case-- Shahidul.
Advocate Abdul Hossain stood for the defendants in the court, while special public prosecutor Rathish Chandra Bhoumik moved for the sate.
According to the case statement, on July 17 in 2008, Rakib and his two other friends went to take bath in the pond of one Advocate Abu Taleb at Khamarpara area in Rangpur city.
The convict Nazmul then chased them and somehow caught Rakib by the hand. Rakib died on the spot from merciless beating by the convict.
Later, Rakib’s father Aynal filed a case with Kotwali police station. Police submitted charge-sheet in the case against Nazmul and Shohidul in 2008.
