3 get life term in Manikganj murder case

MANIKGANJ: A district court has awarded life term imprisonment to three people in a murder case of Harirampur upazila of Manikganj.

District and Sessions Court’s Judge Mizanur Rahman pronounced the verdict on Tuesday (April 25) in presence of two of the three convicts in court.

The court also fined TK. 20,000 each, in default, six more months’ imprisonment.

The convicts are Abdur Razzak, 30, Samir Uddin, 26, and Mofzel Mia, 28. They are inhabitants of Harirampur upazila. Among the convicts, Mofzel is on the run following bail.

According to the case statement, Abdul Halim, 35, along with his motorbike went missing from Balra area of the upazila on March 16 in 2014.

Two days after the missing, police arrested Samir Uddin with the motorbike from neighboring Lechhraganj area. Later, police recovered the body of Abdul Halim with hands, legs and face tied from Andharmanik Char of Harirampur.

Abdul Halim’s wife Farida Begum filed a case with Harirampur police station in this connection. Later, police arrested three other accused in the case—Razzak, Mofzel and Baten.

Police submitted charge-sheet against them on December 22 in 2014. Baten was electrocuted to death during the case was underway.
