Six Jessore men get life for night guard murder

JESSORE: A Jessore court has awarded rigorous imprisonment unto death to six people for killing a night guard at Manirampur upazila in the district.

Special Judge of Jessore Nitai Chandra Saha delivered the verdict in absentia on Tuesday (May 02).

Public prosecutor (PP) of Jessore special court SM Badruzzaman Palash confirmed the matter to the Banglanews.

The PP said that the convicts are on the run following bail. The court asked the authorities concerned to arrest the convicted men as soon as early.  

The convicts are Juhor Ali alias Tera Khokon of Chandra village under Keshabpur upazila, Ishak Ali of Kumorpul village of the same upazla, Abdur Rauf Mollah of Modhyakachua village under Jessore sadar upazila, Shamim of Norendra village of the same upazila, Rezaul alias Shahjahan of Ratneshwar village under Manirampur upazila, and Mozam Ali of Ghughurail village under the same upazila.

According to the case statement, night guard Abu Bakar, 70, was strangled to death in night on March 12 in 2000, as he witnessed the convicted people during theft in a sawmill at Begaritola Bazar under Manirampur upazila.

Later, owner of the sawmill Abdus Samad filed a case with Manipira police station in this connection.
