HC verdict on mobile court stayed

DHAKA: A chamber judge of the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division has stayed the High Court verdict that declared the executive magistrates run mobile court as illegal and unconstitutional.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order on Sunday (May 14) following an appeal plea filed by the government.

The court stayed the HC verdict till May, as the chamber judge sent the petition to the full bench of the Appellate Division for its hearing on that day.

Attorney general Mahbubey Alam took part in the hearing on behalf of the state, while Barrister Hasan MS Azim moved for the petitioner of the case.

Earlier in the morning, the government filed the appeal plea seeking a stay on the High court order.

Earlier on May 11, the HC bench of Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das declared that the operation of mobile court is illegal and unconstitutional. The bench passed the verdict following hearing of a rule in this regard.
