PIROJPUR: A court on Tuesday (May 23) awarded life term imprisonment to a man in a case filed over raping a disabled girl at Matibhanga union under Nazipur upazila in the district.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 and Additional District and Session Judge in Pirojpur SM Zillur Rahman delivered the verdict.

The court also fined the convict Tk 50,000, in default, three more months’ imprisonment.

The convict is Lahu Mollah, 40, son of Soleman Mollah of Char Matibhanga village under Nazipur upazila.

According to the case statement, the convict forcibly raped the disabled girl on April 11 in 2009. The victim informed the incident to her mother.

The local arbitrators were informed the incident, but they were dillydallying. Later, victim’s father filed a case in this connection.
