MANIKGANJ: A district court has awarded death sentence to five people for killing Uma Chakrabarty at Singair upazila in Manikganj in 2010.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Court in Manikganj Al Mahmud Faizul Kabir delivered the verdict on Tuesday morning (June 06) in presence of three of the convicts.

The court also fined the convicts Tk. 20,000 each.

Uma Chakrabarty’s son Manbendra Chakrabarty confirmed the matter to the Banglanews.

The convicts are Md Ishak Bhuiyan, Iman Ali Fakir, Bachchhu Mia, Shahidul Islam and Nannu Mia.

Among them, Iman Ali and Nannu Mia are on the run.

According to the case statement, the convicted persons killed Uma Chakrabarty in a planned way in her home at night on August 9 in 2010. The convicts entered in the residence of the victim at about 2:00 pm for robbery.
