GAZIPUR: A Gazipur court on Wednesday (July 4) handed over death sentences to three persons including two brothers in a case filed over killing an auto-rickshaw driver.
Besides, the convicts were fined Tk10 thousand each.
Gazipur District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Haque passed the order in the morning.
M Rabiul Islam, inspector at the court, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
The convicts are—Mehedi Hasan Babu, son of Abdur Rahman in Mouchak area of Kaliakoir, M Alamgir Hossain, and Delwar Hossain, sons of Amir Hamza alias M Omar Ali in Jathalia area in Kaliakoir.
Of the convicts, Alamgir and Mehedi were present at the court on Wednesday whereas Delwar is absconding.
Court sources said that one Haider Ali, hailed from Lalmonirhat district, went missing from Kaliakoir on December 16, 2013.
He used to run auto-rickshaw in the upazila.
Later, Haider was found dead at Ratanpur area in Kaliakoir the next day.
However, Haider’s elder brother Shafiqul Islam filed a case in connection with the incident.
Later, investigation officer of the case, Inspector Nazmul Haque of CID pressed charges against the three on February 23.
On Wednesday, the court gave the verdict announcing deaths for the three people upon hearing and taking testimony from 15 witnesses.
