5 get life for gang-raping 2 sisters in Sylhet

SYLHET: A district court on Sunday (Aug 20) sentenced life term imprisonment to five people for gang-raping two sisters in Beanibazar of Sylhet.

Judge of Sylhet additional district and sessions court AA Julfiqar also fined the convicts Tk one lakh each and acquitted one accused in the case. 

The convicts are- Jainul Ahmed, 40, son of one late Makhdods Ali of Jalalpur area in Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet, Kamal Ahmed alias Kamal, 26, from the same area, Abdul Basit, 36, son of one Sonai Mia, Hasnu Mia, 37, son of one Abdul Makit from nearby Baraiail village and Selimuddin, 25, son of one late Sundar Ali from Kanaighat area. 

Of them, Abdul Basit is absconding.

According to case statement, On May 25 in 2014, the convicts broke in a mud house by cutting the clay of the mud-wall at night and gang raped two sleeping sisters. The girls’ father identified one of the rapists Jainul while they were getting out of the house. On the next day, the father filed a rape case with the Beanibazar police station accusing five people including Jainul.
