NARSHINGDI: A Tribunal on Wednesday (Oct 4) sentenced death penalty to three people for killing Mahmuda Akhter in Shibpur upazila of Narshingdi.

Judge of Narshingdi Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Mohammad Golam Rabbani also fined the convicts in different amounts. 

The death row convicts are Sultan Mia, 35, son of one Hossain Ali Bepari of Gobindapur village under Hossainpur thana in Kishoreganj, Shafiqul Islam Sharif, 32, son of one Ali Hossain of Maddhyapanan village and Osman Gani, 34, son of one Abdul Motalib of Joynagar village under Shibpur thana.

Tribunal Public Prosecutor (PP) advocate Rina Debnath told Banglanews that one of the convicts Shafiqul Islam Sharif was engaged in a physical relationship, started through cell phone conversation, with Mahmuda, daughter of one Billal Hossain of Kismotabad village in Nandail upazila.

At one point, Mahmuda started to pressure Sharif for marriage. On February 3 in 2015, when situation got out of hand, Sharif along with two other convicts killed Mahmuda after raping her in turns, he added.
