KISHOREGANJ: A court on Wednesday (October 04) awarded life term imprisonment to a man for raping an unmarried girl at Bajitpur upazila in Kishoreganj in 2012.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Kishoreganj Md Awlad Hossain Bhuiyan delivered the verdict.

The court also fined the convict Tk. 10,000, in default, one month more imprisonment. The court, however, ordered the convict to take paternal responsibility of the child who was born following the rape.

The convict is Shaheen Mia, a resident of Tatalchar village under Bajitpur upazila. He was not present before the court during the delivery of verdict.

According to the case statement, Shaheen Mia forcible raped the victim on March 25 in 2013 at residence of the girl where she had used live along with her younger brother.

The girl has become pregnant and gave birth of her newborn on April 24 in 2013.
