DHAKA: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Saturday (October 07) demanded statement from Chief Justice SK Sinha over his illness and leave.
The SCBA, however, announced a five-day protest program to protect, what it says, the dignity and image of the judiciary. The protest program will be held from October 08 (Sunday) to October 12 across country.
SCBA President Advocate Zainul Abedin announced the program at a press conference in SCBA auditorium. He called the lawyers to form human chain and bring out procession across the country from October 08 to October 12.
SCBA Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and other executive committee members of the SCBA, who are the pro-BNP lawyers, were present at the press conference.
The SCBA leaders said that they tried to meet Chief Justice SK Sinha on Friday afternoon (October 06), but they failed due to obstacle of the law enforcers.
“Law minister, Prime Minister’s adviser and some other government officials met SK Sinha in the last two days, but the law enforcers did not allow us. It proves that the Chief Justice was forced to go on leave and he is now under house-arrest,” said Zainul Abedin.
“The Chief Justice is not ill. He visited temple for Laxmi Puja and Australian High Commission for visa purpose. We want his statement,” the SCBA President said.
