3 fishermen jailed in Kushtia by mobile court

KUSHTIA: A mobile court in Kushtia on Sunday (October 08) sentenced three fishermen to one month imprisonment each for defying the ban on catching Hilsa fish.

The convicted fishermen were detained during a drive conducted in Padma River at Mirpur upazila of Kushtia in the early morning.  

Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) of Mirpur SM Jamal Ahmed led the drive.

During the drive, the law enforcers also seized 3,000 meters of fine-mesh gill net, known as ‘current jal’ used in the illegal fishing.

The detainees are Shamim, 30, son of Jalal Mondol of Talbaria village, Rubel Mondol, 25, son of late Kanu Mondol, and Nasir Mondol, 18, son of late Kader Mondol.

The mobile court gave the verdict under Section 188. The court also burned fishing net.
