DHAKA: Acting Chief Justice Md. Abdul Wahhab Miah has underscored the need for ensuring an environment of immense respect to the judiciary in establishing the rule of law, the pre-requisite for any democratic state.
The Acting CJ was addressing a function organized in city’s Officers’ Club on Saturday (November 11).
The function was organized on the occasion of certificate distribution among the newly enlisted lawyers by the Bangladesh Bar Council.
Md. Abdul Wahhab Miah said, “According to the constitution, the responsibility is laid upon the Supreme Court to establish the rule of law. In this regard, Bar (Lawyers Association)'s role is equally important. A strong and supportive bar is undoubtedly an effective friend of the bench (court).”
He said that where the rule of law falls, there arises autocracy.
Law Minister Anisul Haq Appellate Division's Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Attorney General and Bar Council Chairman Mahbubey Alam, Chairman of the Executive Committee Abdul Matin Khasru, and Chairman of the Finance Committee Sham Rezaul Karim also spoke on the occasion, among others.
