DHAKA: A Dhaka court issued arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia as she failed to appear in the hearing of Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases.
Khaleda’s lawyer Advocate Sanaullah Miah pleaded for time extension till 2:00pm, claiming that she couldn’t reach the court due to the hartal enforced by the leftist parties Thursday (November 30).
Dhaka Special court-5 Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman rejected the plea and ordered her arrest.
Besides, the court fixed December 5, 6, and 7 to hear the arguments by the prosecution and the defence.
However, Khaleda was earlier granted bail till November 30.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case against four including Khaleda, accusing of raising funds from unknown sources through abusing power, on August 8, 2011.
In 2008, ACC accused six persons including Khaleda, her elder son Tarique Rahman for misappropriating over Tk2.10 crore, in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
