DHAKA: The High Court issued a rule asking government to explain why it should not be directed to include Village (Gram) Police Force under the government-announced pay scale for fourth class employees.
An HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan came up with the rule following a writ petition filed by some members of Village Police Force.
A total of 32 people including local government, finance, public administration, home, law secretary, and inspector general of police (IGP) were asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
Earlier on Nov 27, a total of 55 members of Village Police Force filed the petition with the HC seeking its order on the government to give them scale equal to the fourth class employees.
Petitioners’ lawyer Barrister Humayun Kabir said the government had decided on July 9 in 2008 to give Village Police Force pay-scale equal to fourth class employees of the government. However, it has not yet implemented yet.
Currently there are 46,000 members in the Village Police Force. A Dofadar of the force gets Tk 3,500 and a Mohaldar gets Tk 3,000 as salary per month.
