DHAKA: A Dhaka court has summoned poet and columnist Farhad Mazhar and his wife Farida Akhter following a prosecution case filled by Detective Branch (DB) of police on charges of ‘filing a false case over disappearance’.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Subrata Ghosh on Sunday (December 31) issued the summon asking the right activist couple to appear before it on January 30.
Earlier on Thursday (December 28), DB Inspector Mahbubul Hoque sent the findings of investigation to CMM court by post and filed prosecution case.
The prosecution case was filed under Section 211 and 109 of the Penal Code. Police have charged Farhad Mazhar and Farida Akhter with ‘misleading law enforcers by providing false information’.
On November 14, DB police sought permission from the court to prosecute Farhad Mazhar and his wife.
The writer was found on a bus in Jessore 18 hours after he went missing from the capital city on June 03.
The family members of Farhad Mazhar alleged in a police complaint, which was later recorded as a case, that he was abducted after he left home early that morning.
In the final probe report submitted by the police, it was said that the case filed by Farida Akhter is baseless.
On December 07, the court held a hearing over the probe report and asked them to file the prosecution case
