DHAKA: Sylhet district BNP general secretary Ali Ahmed filed a writ petition with the High Court as Jatiya Oikyafront had not been given permission to hold the rally in Sylhet.
The HC bench of Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md. Ashraful Kamal could hear the petition.
Gana Forum leader and Supreme Court lawyer Jaglul Haider Afrique said the writ was submitted with the permission of the court on Sunday (October 21).
Jaglul Haider Afrique also told Banglanews: “Sylhet Police Commissioner did not give permission to hold rally on October 23. Later, permission for holding rally on October 24 was also refused verbally. Therefore, the writ petition was filed by Ali Ahmed after taking permission from the court.”
Five persons, including Home Secretary, IGP of police, and Sylhet police commissioner have been defendant in the writ.
Ali Ahmed said, “Holding rally is a democratic right. As the right was violated, the writ petition was filed.”
