DHAKA: The High Court directed authorities concerned of the government to submit before it the list of attendance/absence of physicians in public hospitals across the country.
Health Secretary, Director General of Health Department, Head of Monitoring Cell of Health Department and Member Secretary were instructed to submit the list by April 30 next year.
The HC bench of Justices Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Md Ashraful Kamal on Tuesday (October 23) passed the order with a rule following a writ filed in public interest.
In the rule, the HC asked authorities concerned of the government to explain within four weeks why the inactivity of monitoring cell formed in 2013 to oversee physicians’ presence or absence in workplace should not be declared illegal.
Health Secretary, Public Administration Secretary, Director General of Health Department, President and Secretary of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), President of Monitoring Cell of Health Department and Member Secretary were made respondents to the rule.
Barrister Abdul Halim moved for the writ petition in court. Later he told Banglanews that human rights organization Blast filed the writ mentioning the reports published in newspapers on doctors’ attendance in public hospitals and upazila health complexes.
