DHAKA: The High Court directed the government to give first-class division facilities in jail to Barrister Mainul Hosein.
The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Rajik Al Jalil delivered the order on Monday (October 29) after hearing a writ petition filed by Mainul's lawyers.
Dr. Kamal Hossain and Khandker Mahbub Hossain argued for Mainul.
Barrister Mainul was arrested from the city’s Uttara area on October 22.
Police arrested Mainul in a defamation case filed with a Rangpur court for his remarks on TV ‘defaming’ journalist Masuda Bhatti.
Mainul’s appalling comment about Masuda Bhatt,i on a talk show which was broadcast on October 16, triggered outrage in media.
Masuda Bhatti herself filed a defamation case on October 21. Besides, a few cases were filed countrywide.
Mainul was involved in newly-formed political alliance Jatiya Oikyafront, which comprises BNP, Gono Forum, JSD (Rab) and Nagorik Oikya, launched on October 13.
Mainul was also a former adviser to the military-controlled caretaker government.
