DHAKA: The High Court directed the authorities concerned to form a 5-member committee to test standard of water supplied by Dhaka Water Supply & Sewerage Authority (DWASA) through pipeline.
The HC bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Mohammad Khairul Alam passed the order after hearing a writ petition on Tuesday (November 6).
The committee was asked to submit the report to court within next two months.
As per HC order, the Committee will comprise a representative from the Ministry of Local Government, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bureau of Research Testing and Consultation (BRPDC), Dhaka University’s Pharmacy department and Microbiological Science department.
Besides, the bench also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned why their negligence and inaction in supplying water would not be declared illegal.
Secretaries to the Local Government Ministry, Health Ministry, director general of Directorate of Health, managing director of WASA and four others were made respondent to reply the rule within 4 weeks.
Supreme Court Lawyer Md Tanvir Ahmed who filed the writ following a report, published by World Bank, on the presence of bacteria in WASA water.
