DHAKA: Chief Justice formed a one-member bench to hear the three writ petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia that challenged rejection of her candidacy by Election Commission (EC).
CJ Syed Mahmud Hossain formed the bench headed by Justice JBM Hassan.
Special Officer under High Court Division of Supreme Court Mohammad Saifur Rahman confirmed the matter on Wednesday (December 12).
An HC bench delivered a split order on the three writ petitions on Tuesday (December 11).
Senior Judge of the HC bench Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed issued a rule postponing the EC order for Khaleda Zia.
On the other hand, Justice Md Iqbal Kabir, of the same bench, disagreed with the order.
As the rule, the pleas were forwarded to the Chief Justice as the two judges gave dissenting order.
The three separate writ petitions were filed with the concerned bench of HC on December 9.
On December 8, EC rejected Khaleda Zia’s candidacy to contest the 11th national elections.
Earlier on December 2, Returning Officers rejected her nomination forms for Feni-1 and Bogra-6 and 7 constituencies.
The 11th parliamentary elections are slated for December 30.
