Eskaton double murder verdict on Jan 30 Awami League leader Pinu Khan's son Rony

DHAKA: A Dhaka court fixed January 30 for delivering verdict in the Eskaton double murder case, filed against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of Awami League leader Pinu Khan.

Judge Md Monjurul Imam of the Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka on Tuesday (Jan 15) fixed the date after completion of additional arguments from both sides.

Earlier on October 4, 2018, the court has deferred the verdict for the second time to hear a fresh testimony from a witness in the case.

Besides, another Dhaka court, on May 8 in 2018, halted its verdict over a double murder case as the judge thinks a further hearing is required before the delivery of the verdict.

A Dhaka court framed charges against Rony on Mar 6, 2016.

According to case statement, an auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Ali and a rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim were killed in a random firing from a black Land Cruiser Prado in city’s New Eskaton Road on April 14, 2015.

Former MP Pinu Khan’s son Rony is said to have fired on them after being annoyed with “traffic jam” at midnight while he was “on drugs”.

Later, Abdul Hakim’s mother filed a case with Ramna Police Station, over the incident.

Rony, the lone accused in the murder case, was arrested on May 31, 2015.
